Description
The brush-footed butterfly, “Charaxes fournierae“ is a member of the Nymphalidae family. The species Charaxes was described for the fi rst time by the lepidopterist Ferdinand Ochsenheimer and includes more than 180 types. A common characteristic connects the members of this family: They only possess two functional leg pairs. The two legs in the front are a reduced pair of forelegs which only serve as cleaning paws. That is why the Nymphalidae are also called brush-footed butterflies. They are found in tropical regions in Central Africa.
